If you have heard of forensics, then you have heard of Robert O’Block. Robert O’Block founded the American College of Forensic Examiners International, which is, today, the largest and fastest-growing forensic association in the world.

A part of Robert O’Block’s success in creating the American College of Forensic Examiners International has been the publishing of the association’s official journal, The Forensic Examiner. Since its origin, this journal has served as a critical medium through which members gain access to, learn about, and respond to forensic news and information. Without Dr. Robert O’Block’s lifetime of work and achievement in criminology and law enforcement, publications like this may never have come to be.

Another component of Dr. Robert O’Block’s success is the subsequent creation of the Annals of the American Psychotherapy Association, a publication inspired by the formation of The American Psychotherapy Association, a sub-group of experts part of the American College of Forensic Examiners International. If it had not been for Dr. Robert O’Block’s influence, then it is possible that journals like this would not ever have been designed to unite members of the forensic community through information, and, indeed, there might be no official community bringing forensics experts and criminologists together in the first place. Before its fourth anniversary, the College of Forensic Examiners International attracted 10,000 members.

Another product of the association’s success was the inspiration for certification programs that continue to educate and empower countless individuals to become hard-working, active professionals today. At first, the association offered courses in subjects having to do with computers in forensic examination, profiling, communication and strategic planning. Eventually, however, as Dr. Robert O’Block’s creation continued to gain momentum, the association began training members in everything ranging from forensic psychology, to psychotherapy, to trauma psychology, to geriatric and addiction psychology. Today, even programs like medical investigation are available. Also, responding largely to the attacks on 9/11, Dr. Robert O’Block supported the creation of training programs in the area of homeland security, as well.

Beyond these educational programs and publications, Dr. Robert O’Block’s work has led to national conferences, seminars and summits, large-scale global activism, and has even strengthened the national dialogue about homeland security. What all of these things have in common is connectedness of active members in the forensics community, and the availability of information critical to empowering those members, forensics students, and even the general public with a sense of agency when it comes to learning about forensics news and events. Dr. Robert O’Block’s vision has united people into a community and given that community a voice that is powerful enough to impact current forensics activists and inspire future forensics experts to gain an education that will, in turn, benefit others. Beneath these successes and missions are the personal successes and work ethic of Dr. Robert O’Block, himself. His personal mission and commitment to excellence has impacted the nation, and therefore the world.
